Asset class is a ‘blind spot’ for regulators, former BdF Governor says

Central bankers must realise financial market risk has not "disappeared" but has "morphed" into new forms, the former governor of the Banque de France (BdF) said in Paris today (January 12). Risk was being pushed into such securities as exchange-traded funds (ETFs), Christian Noyer said.

ETFs and similar asset classes were becoming "vehicles" for displacing risk, Noyer told a farewell seminar at the BdF. This seemed to have become a "blind spot" for financial regulators, he added. Central banks
