National statistics agencies are struggling to keep pace with the fast-changing structure of the modern economy, making current statistics look increasingly aged, former Bank of England (BoE) deputy governor Charlie Bean said today (January 7).
Bean told a session of the Treasury Committee that the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS) has fallen behind many other countries in the quality of its data, but all statistical institutions "don't keep up very well" with the realities of the modern
