Rajan weighs currency movements while RBI holds rates

Governor Raghuram Rajan spells out challenges posed by divergence of dollar and euro

Having the dollar strengthen and the euro weaken at the same time does "create problems" for countries such as India, central bank governor Raghuram Rajan said today (December 1).

Rajan was speaking after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept its policy rate unchanged at 6.75%, with both European Central Bank (ECB) (December 3) and Federal Reserve (December 16) policy decisions due later this month.

The ECB has laid the groundwork for further easing, while the Federal Reserve is widely expected
