Eurozone banking sector less reliant on central bank funding, ECB report says

Shadow banking sector ‘increasingly important’ as Eurozone credit provider

Commercial banks in the eurozone are reducing their dependence on central bank funding, the European Central Bank (ECB) said in its report on financial structures on October 29.

The business models of most countries' insurance and pension firms were not changing, despite their vulnerability to the continuing low interest rate environment, the report added.

Meanwhile, growth in eurozone financial assets was primarily being driven by the shadow banking sector, which was an "increasingly important"
