PBoC makes reserve requirement ratio more flexible

China's banks will have more flexibility in how they meet their reserve requirements from September 15, when the People's Bank of China (PBoC) will change the way they are calculated.

On September 11, the PBoC said it would calculate reserves on an average basis over a specific assessment period, the length of which has yet to be disclosed. Currently, the PBoC requires banks to meet reserve requirement ratios (RRR) on a daily basis, a method it has used since 1998.

The switch to an "average
