Venezuelan inflation still running at over 700%, expert says

Venezuela’s central bank failed to rein in inflation as outlook remains bleak

The Venezuelan central bank appears to have lost control of monetary policy with inflation continuing to soar by more than 700%, according to John Hopkins Univeristy professor Steve Hanke. The Central Bank of Venezuela last published official inflation data on its website in December, but all unofficial estimates show prices to be rising rapidly.

Hanke, who also a senior visiting fellow and director of the ‘troubled currencies project' at the Cato Institute, said annual inflation in Venezuela is
