IMF presses for Greek debt relief as Eurogroup meets

Fund official says decision must be taken before IMF will consider providing new funds

European authorities must address the issue of Greek debt relief before the International Monetary Fund will consider providing any new funds, it said on August 1, while it has emerged both the European Central Bank and European Commission may also have "serious concerns" about the sustainability of Greek public debt.

The IMF has repeatedly raised the need for relief, in the form of longer maturities and grace periods on both existing and new European loans. On July 14, staff concluded public
