Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has appointed two external members to its monetary policy committee (MPC) for the first time.
Yeah Kim Leng, a business school dean, and Noor Azlan Ghazali, an economics professor, will join the central bank on April 1 on two-year terms.
The addition of two external members, announced by governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz on March 11, extends the MPC from eight members to 10.
Zeti did not elaborate on the reasoning behind the decision to add external members to the committee
