Largest banks clear Basel hurdle for first time

Banks meet minimum requirements but still fall short of loftier goals

All 98 large internationally active banks that participated in the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision's latest monitoring exercise have cleared the minimum level for capital requirements for the first time.

The Basel III monitoring report shows banks are homing in on minimum requirements across the board, as tougher parts of the phase-in begin to bite. The study, while published yesterday, was based on a snapshot of data on June 30, 2014.
