Argentina’s central bank denies being an ‘alter ego’ of the government

The Central Bank of Argentina has rejected accusations it is an "alter ego" of the government in a court hearing held this week as part of the litigation process with the holdout funds after the country's default in 2001.

Representatives of the government and central bank asked on Wednesday, in a hearing called by the New York Court of Appeals, for the dismissal of the complaint filed by the holdout funds, which called into question the central bank's independence.
