ECB’s Coeuré shifts focus to the quality of credit

Echoes Draghi’s comments on the need to increase investment

Policy-makers should look beyond the revival of credit and consider how it can be channelled toward productive investment, according to European Central Bank (ECB) executive board member Benoit Coeuré.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Bank of Slovenia and the IMF, Coeuré called for an end to the "vicious circle of low growth, low investment and low credit" in favour of a "virtuous circle between productivity and credit".

This, he said, would require a "comprehensive approach" to credit
