Fed survey says 40% of US households still struggling to make ends meet
A third are ‘somewhat or much worse off' than before the financial crisis
Almost 40% of US households are "just getting by" or "struggling" to make ends meet, according to a new survey by the Federal Reserve that could have implications for the timing of an increase in the federal funds rate.
The effects of the financial crisis "continued to be felt by many", the Fed said yesterday in a report summarising the results of the survey, which was carried out online. "Sizable fractions of the population [are] displaying signs of financial stress."
