Chief economist promoted to governor at Maldives Monetary Authority
Maldives: The presidential nominee to head up the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), current MMA chief economist and assistant governor Azeema Adam, was yesterday approved to take up the position by the country's parliament, or majlis.
Adam was the president's second choice after his first, a local bank executive called Ibthishama Ahmed Saeed, was met with scepticism due to her lack of qualifications. Adam by contrast is the only citizen of the country to hold an economics PhD, which she earned
