Governors grapple with regulatory implications of African mobile money growth

Following a doubling of African countries boasting a larger share of mobile accounts than traditional bank accounts in 2013, governors from several leading African central banks agreed to develop comparative surveys of regulatory frameworks for mobile money services and underscored the need for better consumer protection rules at a roundtable in Kenya that concluded on Friday.
