ECB's Smets made counsellor to president Draghi

Frank Smets

Frank Smets, director-general of research at the European Central Bank (ECB), has been appointed counsellor to the president and co-ordinator of counsel to the executive board, effective from December 1.

Smets has been appointed by the ECB executive board to take over from Christian Thimann, who will take up a new post as head of strategy and public affairs at insurance and asset management group Axa on January 1.
