Cyprus finance minister says governor Demetriades is 'under scrutiny'

Cyprus's finance minister Harris Georgiades said yesterday he understands the recent questions over the running of the country's central bank, telling an audience in London he recognises the need for the institution to function smoothly.

The Cypriot parliament launched an investigation earlier this year into whether governor Panicos Demetriades withheld information from an audit firm during the collapse of the country's two biggest banks in March, prompting a warning from the European Central
