Prasarn Trairatvorakul became governor of the Bank of Thailand on October 1, 2010, following a six-year spell working in the commercial sector, first as president of Kasikornbank, then as chairman of KFactoring and KLeasing, and most recently as vice-chairman of Muangthai Life and Muangthai Group.

Between 1999 and 2003, he was secretary-general for the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand and was deputy secretary-general from 1992–99. He
