Brief History

The Bank of Mozambique (Banco de Moçambique) was established on 17 May 1975 by Decree N°. 2/75, to take over activities of Banco Nacional Ultramarino in Mozambique. Under Decree N°. 3/92 of 25 February the Commercial Bank of Mozambique (Banco Comercial de Moçambique) was created to take over all commercial banking functions formerly performed by the Bank of Mozambique. The nature, scope, objectives and functions of the Bank of Mozambique as a central bank were defined by the law N°
