Brief History

Established on 1 October 1960 as the Central Bank of Jamaica under the provisions of the Bank of Jamaica Law. Began business on 1 May 1961. One of the five central banks (the others being Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Barbados and Eastern Caribbean) which took over the functions of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Authority.
